The covenant cut
Genesis 15 begins with Abram saying something out loud that you might not have said even to yourself yet. “Lord GOD, what can you give me, since I am childless?” (Gen 15:2)
That is the prayer of a man who is asking what is the point of any of this if I don’t get the thing I most want? It is brutal honesty in front of God. And the Father does not punish him for it. He takes Abram outside, points at the sky, and answers him with stars.
You are in a season where the future is mostly uncertain. The thing you most want — a partner, a calling, a healing, a clear answer about who you are supposed to be — may not be in your hands yet. Most of us deal with that by either pretending we don’t want it or pretending we have it figured out.
Genesis 15 invites a third move. Just say it. Out loud. To God. Father, I’m afraid this isn’t going to come. Father, I am tired of waiting. The Father can handle your honesty. He has been waiting for it.
One small thing today: pray one prayer that you have been afraid to actually pray. Tell him the real version of what you want, what you fear, what you’re tired of carrying. See if he doesn’t take you outside and show you a sky.
