Through the lens of Woman
The Shema — love the LORD with all
The Shema in Deuteronomy 6 imagines the home as the central sanctuary of faith. Doorposts inscribed. Children taught at every meal. Faith in every room.
Throughout history, women have been the primary tenders of home faith. Lighting the Sabbath candles. Telling the stories. Praying with the children. Singing the songs. The Shema lives because women have kept saying it across generations.
If you are a woman who has been the primary spiritual presence in your home — sometimes by choice, sometimes by default, sometimes because the men in your life have not taken up the role — the Father has not forgotten what you have been doing. You have been keeping the Shema alive in your house.
One small thing today: honor the work. If you have a kid, pray with them tonight. If you have a roommate, speak a verse over the meal. If you live alone, write the Shema on a sticky note and put it on a doorpost. The Father lives in the houses where He is named out loud.
