Balaam — the donkey and the unwilling blessing

Marriages can carry a lot of curse if you let them.

The frustrated comment muttered under your breath. The label one of you has put on the other. The diagnosis you have privately given your spouse. He’s just like his father. She always does this. He’ll never change. She doesn’t get it.

Words shape marriages. Curse-words shrink them. Blessing-words grow them.

Numbers 22 reverses the curse. It also implies the opposite — the words you speak about your spouse have the power to bless or curse what the Father is doing in them.

One small thing this week: name one curse-word you have been speaking — even silently — over your spouse. Repent. Replace it with a blessing-word. He is becoming. She is being shaped by God. We are growing. Speak life into the marriage with the words the Father is using.
