The Day of Atonement — scapegoat and the holy place

Most of us know the gospel in one goat. Jesus died in my place. That part lands. But the second goat is often missed.

The scapegoat carried sin AWAY. Out of the camp. Into a desolate wilderness. Never to return.

Many young adults — especially those raised in church — believe Christ died for their sins, but still walk around carrying those sins. They forgive intellectually but not emotionally. They confess and then keep replaying the failure in their head. They have a guilty conscience that never seems to quiet down.

Leviticus 16 says the goat walked away. Far away. Never came back. Christ did both — He died for the sin, AND He took it away. The replay is no longer needed.

If you have been forgiven but not freed, you have been receiving only one of the goats. Receive the other one. He carried it as far as the east is from the west. Stop trying to walk into the wilderness yourself to bring back what He has already removed.

One small thing today: name one sin you keep replaying. Picture it on the scapegoat. Watch the goat go into the wilderness. Don’t go after it. It is gone.
