The new tablets — mercy, glory, the name

Most of the spiritual baggage you are carrying is built on a wrong picture of God.

You picture Him quick to anger. You picture Him stingy with love. You picture Him waiting to catch you in the next failure. You picture Him disappointed most of the time. You behave around Him the way you would behave around an unpredictable parent — careful, defensive, performing.

Exodus 34:6 says no. Slow to anger. Abounding in love. That is His own name for Himself.

Reread that. Slow to anger. Not quick. Abounding in love. Not stingy. Maintaining love to a thousand generations. Not cycling out at the first sign of failure. The God you have been performing for is not the God of Exodus 34. The God of Exodus 34 has been waiting for you to come close so He can name Himself over you.

One small thing today: write out Exodus 34:6–7 in your own handwriting. Read it aloud. Let the Father say His own name over you. He is exactly what He says He is.
