Through the lens of Man
The new tablets — mercy, glory, the name
A man whose default is mercy is a man whose home is a refuge.
A man whose default is judgment is a man whose home is a courtroom.
The wife learns the default within months. The kids learn it within years. The friends know it almost immediately. What is this man’s first move when something goes wrong? The answer determines what kind of man he is becoming.
Most of the men I know — including me — were trained to default toward correction. To name what’s wrong. To fix the broken thing. To hold standards. All of which has its place. But when correction is the first move, every relationship under that man turns into a performance review.
The Father’s default is mercy. Compassionate, gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He is just — but mercy is the headline. He is correcting — but the correction comes inside the mercy. His order of operations is the order He wants in your house.
One small thing today: in the next thing that goes wrong with your wife, your kid, your friend, your team — lead with mercy. Even before the correction. Watch what happens to the room.
