The plagues — God versus the gods of Egypt
Most of the gods of Egypt in your life right now are invisible to you. That is what makes them gods.
A god is something you cannot imagine your life without. Something you organize your day around. Something whose loss would feel like the end of the world. The platform. The relationship. The metric. The body image. The version of yourself you have been performing.
Most of us cannot see those gods until something exposes them. A relationship ends and you discover how much of your worth was attached to being chosen. A platform deflates and you discover how much of your identity was attached to being seen. A version of yourself fails and you discover the version was an idol you were worshipping.
The Father is not punishing you when one of your gods falls. He is freeing you. The same hand that brought plagues on Egypt brings plagues on the gods we have made out of created things. Both moves are mercy.
One small thing today: name one place where the Father might recently have been exposing an Egyptian god in your life. Don’t fight it. Don’t reframe it. Sit with it. Ask Him what He is making space for instead.
