Through the lens of Man

The burning bush

Moses had five excuses ready when God called him. Who am I? Who are You? They won’t believe me. I’m slow of speech. Please send someone else.

I do not know a single man who hasn’t run those exact five excuses about something the Father has been asking him to do.

Who am I to lead this team / start this thing / have that conversation? (Excuse one — identity.) Who is God? Will He really show up if I do this? (Excuse two — doubt.) Nobody will respect me if I try. (Excuse three — fear of rejection.) I’m not gifted in the way this requires. (Excuse four — competence.) Surely there is someone better suited. (Excuse five — abdication.)

The Father did not buy any of them from Moses. He didn’t argue. He just patiently dismantled each one. He gave Moses a staff. He gave him signs. He gave him Aaron. He did not let the excuses keep Israel in slavery.

He will not let your excuses keep someone else in slavery either. The thing the Father is asking you to do is not for you. It is for the people downstream of you who need a deliverer to show up.

One small thing today: name the excuse that has been loudest in you lately. Then ask the Father — what is the staff or the Aaron You are giving me to overrule that excuse? Then take the next step.
