Through the lens of Man

The binding of Isaac

A man climbs a mountain in Genesis 22 with the heaviest thing he has ever carried. He doesn’t say much in the chapter. We will go and worship, then we will come back to you (Gen 22:5). One sentence. Then walking.

Most of the hardest work a man does is uphill, alone or near-alone, with very few words. The mountain in your life right now might be a financial reckoning. A decision about your kids. A conversation with an aging parent. A confession to your wife. A confrontation with a friend. A long obedience that no one else can do for you.

You don’t get to skip the mountain. The blessing was at the top. The substitute was at the top. The provision was at the top. None of which Abraham knew when he started walking.

One small thing today: name the mountain. The actual one. Don’t bargain it down to a hill. Don’t outsource it. Take one step toward it today. Even one. The Father is at the top.
